Interesting install of the day.

So today a had a very interesting creative install of an expired RA40.

Dad had a pre-latch vehicle. He installed the seat FF driver side. He attached one latch connector to the male end of the unbuckled center seat belt and the other latch connector to the male end of the unbuckled driver side seat belt. He also attached the top tether to the back dash (again pre-top tether vehicle) by lifting up the back dash and clipping onto the fabric covered press board? up there. Gah! Should I even mention the seat was being used by a 5 year old. So basically they've been driving around with their 5yo in an expired outgrown uninstalled car seat.:(

Carseats are not that hard I always wonder how some people get by w there kids so unsafe

Well it can be complicated depending on the car, LATCH or seat belt and some seats install differently than others.

I think most people try the best they can.

No they just needed to open a manual and read it. Then if it was installed incorrectly I'd say they did the best they could.

Seems that easy but not always. I think there are a lot of people that care and just get overwhelmed.

I see this kind of thing defended often, but I'm honestly stymied.

If a parent gives enough of a flying frack to see a tech, how can they be so out of touch as to cook up these headscratching installs?

You would have to (1) not understand that the seat restrains a child in a collision; (2) not spend even a second thinking about what will actually happen in said collision; (3) not read any manuals, car or seat; (4) never have really looked at a decently installed seat; (5) not be naturally curious/not have a drive to figure things out.

Well in this situation the parent didn't come to a check to see a tech. They were lucky enough to have a baby in one of our hospitals. At discharge when we check baby's seat and install we check sibling seats as well.:)

For the record, I am not saying I am okay with it or defending it. I just know before I came here I did a lot wrong and I read the manuals. Maybe not cover to cover but I did. I still don't know if I could have installed lbp on the FR85 without aid from you guys and a video.

To me, These convoluted installs are someone trying to get it right, Trying to make the kid safe and just not getting it. If they did not care at all, The kid would be in back with no seat at all. Just 1 cent and 1/2..
