PlanetBox Launch

Anyone have these? DH makes lunch for the kids in the morning and us and he was thinking it would be easier if we just had boxes for all of us. I thought the Launch would be the way to go so we could use the glass container for any reheatable food and fit a larger portion in. Breastfeeding mamas get hungry during the day! LOL

Feedback please! Oh, the kids already have the regular PlanetBoxes so I am familiar with the product in general.

I hope you like them! Let us know. I like my original one a lot. Use it almost every day.

They came today. That was fast to get here. The bags are really nice. The flap closes with magnets. The shoulder straps aren't removable, which is fine for DH and I as well use ours, but TechnoTeen was considering upgrading to one and I know the shoulder strap would be in her way. She puts hers into the laptop compartment of her backpack and doesn't use the shoulder strap. That being said, she does walk over to a friend's everyday to eat her lunch so maybe she would use the strap if she didn't have the option to remove it...it could always be unstitched if someone really didn't want it.

The boxes are nice like the regular ones. High quality for sure. The glass container is nice and can go in the microwave or oven. It's got a silicone lid which isn't microwaveable. I saw someone complain about that on their Facebook page and ask for them to make a vented, microwaveable lid. I have no desire for one, I am fine with the silicone lid. I have no idea why a vented lid would be necessary. Microwaved lunch is microwaved lunch, a vented lid isn't going to make it taste better. LOL (disclaimer, I don't own a microwave, don't like my food microwaved, but will use the one at work to heat up certain leftovers. Never pizza though. ;))

No bottle holder on the bag. Again, not a huge deal for me as I've got water and drinks at work. DH takes his coffee mug it it has a carabiner so he just clip it on. So this could easily be resolved with a bottle with a clip like a Nathan or with a spot for a clip like a Camelbak. Probably better to not have the extra pocket on the bag (which couldn't be on the side because the bag is too skinny for that).

The bag is lined with a very wipeable material inside. So no worries of something should leak or you dump something inside.

This surprised me, the bags aren't any bigger in length/width than the original bags. They are deeper though. So the bags ended up being smaller than I expected.

Any questions?

Does it really hold that much more food? I know what the numbers say but I can't visualize it.

Well we haven't used them yet. :p but it's definitely deeper so going to hold more. And there's only 3 compartments, so the compartments are each larger to hold larger items than you can in the smaller box. No need to cut sandwiches down the same way or make things as cute. ;) Fine for the kids, but unnecessary for us adults. Ha ha.

Oh and since our lunches won't necessarily be the same as the kids, I'm not sure we'll really have a way to determine how much more it holds. We just figured it would be better for leftovers that are better heated and we can do so at work, but the kids can't heat up at school.

I could likely put a kids lunch in one, then move it to mine to show extra space if that would be helpful? I'll have to make a sample lunch on a weekend though to do that as our mornings are zoos unfortunately. So you'll have to wait a bit. :)

Thanks. I don't even know why I care at this point! I do not need another Planetbox. Seriously. DH may need a bigger one though...

ETA: my dad said they looked like the divided metal dishes he took to school in India 50 years ago! LOL

ETA again: a heart attack almost ensued when I showed him the price!

Maybe! They don't really have disposables there so everyone brings their own dishes to eat the school lunch. I should tell him to bring some back next time he goes. Haha
