Would you buy a parkway from a Surplus?

I ran into a parkway for $45 dollars, NWT and with the original box. DOM is 01/07. I was wondering if you would buy it. I am tempted, but a little doubtfull. This store gets truckloads from sears, and on occasion get baby items like this one. So would you feel comfortable buying this or not? I know you shouldnt buy any used seats but would this not count as used? Please no nasty reply's. By the way I would use this on occasion with my 7 yr old nephew.

Damn it! I went back, and it turns out they dont have the box. He told me he did have it in the back of the store. They had the seat just out of the box. Plus he told me it was a floor sample. :soapbox: Why did he fail to mention that before I got my hopes up! Anyway, I didnt buy it. Do you think I should have anyway? It does have the tags still. I just need some reassurance (sp?)

I would probably still buy it. Its not going to hold your child in a crash its just holding the child up so the seat belt can hold them in a crash.

See if they will go down a bit in price since there is no box?

I would not purchase a floor model. Boosters still provide some structural energy absorption, even if they are not harnessed seats.

I will not be buying it :( I guess it was too good to be true.
Although the evil side of me is itching to buy it and then call Britax and get a replacement :evil grin: (e.i. the seat wont lock into position) But I promise I wont, just an evil thought. I guess he will have to keep riding on the tiffany parkway!

Am I the only one who doesn't have a problem buying a floor model?

I wouldn't buy one sight unseen, but if you can see it in person, and it's a seat you're familiar enough with that you could easily tell whether everything is working properly and all parts are present, then why not? It isn't used, just "tried on" so to speak. I don't see a problem. I've purchased floor models in the past and as long as everything checks out, I'd do it again.

With me it is the fear of the unknown. Sure you can see that all the parts are there and no outside signs of distress but I on more than one occasion have seen a floor model dropped onto the hard floor inside a store and concrete/asphalt outside when taken out to be tried in a car. Floor models really take a beating. Now on other things I have no problem taking a floor model just not a car seat where my child's safety is concerned.

No. Just because you are familiar with the seat doesn't mean you can see damage or weakness due to being dropped or otherwise abused. Floor models take a real beating from both customers and the staff of stores. They get thrown around quite a bit in the back. It's the same reason you don't use a seat after an accident, even if it 'looks' ok.

So you're all basically saying car seats should be considered unuseable if they've been dropped? Or even if there's a chance they have been? I'm sorry, but I don't agree with that. Dropped off a roof, maybe, but from my hands or a store shelf onto the floor? That's a whole lot different from being in a crash. There's no comparison. And if you're concerned about how they're treated in the warehouse.... well, then you better not let UPS* ship a car seat to you ;)

Everyone has their own comfort level when it comes to their child's safety. If you aren't personally comfortable using a floor model, then don't. I'm just providing another point of view on the issue.

I bought my DD's (now DS's) Wizard as a floor model from BRU. It was $199 since they matched the price I found on-line for the same one. I have no problems with it at all. First off, I don't think anyone but me knows that they can take the seats and try them in their car. LOL. There weren't any parts missing except the D-ring, which I think makes sense since it could be taken off easily and set somewhere OR stolen by a parent that wanted one. The seat had no wear and tear, no dings marks etc and had all the tags attached. And honestly, I've probably beat up on it more than it was there getting it in and out of our Jeep.

If you're uncomfortable with it, don't buy it. But, I have no problem with it at all.

OK I'd have to check a harnessed seat over quite thoroughly to feel comfortable enough that it wasn't hauled around by the harness or something, but a booster? I realize it does take SOME impact perhaps in a lateral collision, but if the EPS foam is intact and there are no cracks in the side, it is probably ok. Let's not forget that SIP seats haven't been around for a very long time, and any NBB has no side impact. So compromised SIP should be better than none IMO.

I'd do it.. I almost bought a TRU floor model Chase as a back-up seat for my IL's car last weekend... The only reason I didn't was b/c I wasn't sure it would fit in their car and their on vacation for a few weeks.

That is one heck of a good deal!

I bought a floor model Breverra (one of the nicer ones, can't remember which model now - many years ago) for my ILs car. I didn't want to spend full price for a seat that was going to get used maybe once a week. It was practically a steal and it worked well (well, the typical PITB to install, but it fit). I looked it over and it was in good shape, had all it's tags and half off!

That said, if you're not comfortable with it then don't. But I'd get a PW that was in good shape that was a floor model. If nothing else, the extra cover would be nice!
