Car Seats/ Blind Spots

Since I have never driven a car with child seats in them, and I am researching all forms of hazards posed by blind spots, I was wondering if people who regularly transport children in their cars could enlighten me on whether this poses a vision problem. Also, if there is any literature out there on this topic that anyone is aware of, could you please pass it along? Thanks!

In many vehicles, the majority of child seats would not even rise above the top of the back of the vehicle seat. There are a few very tall models, mostly boosters. These are used specifically for whiplash protection when the vehicle seat backs are too low. Some vehicles have very low seat backs, especially 2-door models. In these cases, the top of the child seat can obstruct the view a bit, but no more than an adult passenger would if seated there.

When we have a child in a carseat with a high back, we remove the head restraints for that seating position in the vehicle and that actually improves rear visibility.

Sometimes, they do. However, an adult sitting in the same position would be just as bad, if not worse, for blocking the view.

Blind spots can vary from vehicle to vehicle, too -- I'm wondering if I ought to bring my daughter's carseat when I test drive a new car....
