British Airways doesn't make it easy to buy infants a seat...

If you book through Expedia you can avoid must of the hassle bc Expedia allows you to book an infant ticket. I fly Europe to US at least 1x year and usually fly delta which also has that ridiculous "call us to book your paid infant seat" policy. Problem being that when you call the telephone fare is much higher than the web fare so even with the 25% discount you end up paying more. Expedia allows you to book with the child discount and you get the web fare. So even if you pay a little more for service charges you still end up ahead.

I noticed that on Expedia before!

I live overseas, and I've loved being able to fly on some airlines that have so much better inflight service than I was used in North America, but flying with kids under 2 years is more challenging. For a few airlines, we've actually had to physically go into the airline's offices to book and pay for DD2's ticket when she was under two years! Would have been nice if I could have just made a phone call!

I live in Europe and some companies wont allow babies under 2 to have a seat and car seats are banned from the cabin. Some airlines allow it but then put on so many restrictions that it's impossible to use the car seat (unrealistically small, approval only from that country, etc.) I've had my car seats taken away and been forced to luggage-check them at the counter. Gate checking wasn't even allowed...

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience, but I cannot see where and how British Airways are in the wrong...I do not see any kind of deception there.

Thanks for the link. It would have been useful if that information was linked to their booking page. I was not trying to imply that BA had been deceptive. I just think their policy (even as written in the link you provided) could act as a deterrent and that they should make it much easier to book seats for infants. I should be able to do it online and, failing that, I should get a fair price.

The fact remains that BA absolutely does have a huge customer service issue when it comes to families traveling.

redsox_baby - I agree completely! We've encountered the same issue where, as a lap baby, we all had preassigned seats together. Now that I've changed it to a ticket, we have no way to preselect our seat. Sigh. What a headache!

I can't believe all of the hoops and issues everyone is reporting. It would be awesome to see some action on this outside of the US.
