More specifically: compressed gases used for welding. What are the crazy things you've seen with them? And if you do transport them, what do you feel is the safest way?

I've seen them sticking out the trunks of cars with the valve end out  . If the end came of that would be a very high speed projectile.
When I transport them I carry them in the back of my truck with the valve facing the front. Upright would be best, but I haven't rigged something up to hold them safely upright.

i'm willing to bet most of us have transported compressed gasses used for welding, lol... ;)

yes, it's basically a torpedo. i've only seen them in flatbed trucks where they're chained vertically to a support.

My aunt had to transport a propane tank for somewhere she was working once. She was driving an accord at the time, she put in on the floorboard of the back seat, straight up, and moved the drivers seat back some so that it would cut down on how much it would shift around.

safest way IMO would be in a pickup with the valve facing to the FRONT of the vehicle. with the tanks well strapped down w/ tie down straps.

in the event a valve DID break, it would launch BACK away from the vehicle.

My co-worker likes to put all the cement blocks, axes, tree cutters, etc. on the seats inside the plow truck rather than in the back end where it belongs -- drives me crazy for the safety issue ... drives my dad crazy because he's got leather interior & would actually like to be able to sell it off someday @@

Why a CARSEAT of course.

I'm a big fan of the show Good Eats on the food network. He has a carseat outgrown by his child (a triumph IIRC) that he uses to transport propane safely. Sounds good to me. Maybe that's what I'll do with the next OTHS that I find on the side of the road.

I have transported gas for welding. It's in a blue bottle. . .I can't remember which gas it was tho.

I saw someone doing this! We were crossing the border and the guy in front of us had a CarGo with a bottle of propane strapped in!
