What is the smallest infant seat?

I'm wondering what is the smallest infant seat (measuring front to back) to fit in a small backseat?

I love our Safeseat, but when baby #2 comes around, I may end up with two RFing kids in a Subaru Forester. The Safeseat does not fit very well outboard (it just barely fits behind passenger with the handle up and passenger's knees in the dash).

Thanks!

I have a peg perego primo viaggio, and while I've never even seen a SS1, the primo viaggio seems to sit up a little more than the other infant seat we had, and fit very well outboard in an 02 2dr chev cavalier. From my reading, pretty much any infant carrier will have a shorter back than the ss1, because it's designed to last your baby longer.

Your old child can be at a 30 degree angle, giving you more room.

I know. Even at a 30 degree angle, though, a Marathon/Boulevard is a tight fit behind the driver. It's doable behind the passenger if we can find an infant seat that fits behind the driver.

This is all speculation, since there is currently no DC#2. But when I brought up my concern about the size of the RF Marathon to DH, he said that we'll turn DD forward facing by the time we have another child. I don't think that's a great option, so I'm just trying to get an idea of what is smaller than the Safeseat. We have a 20 lb. Snugride as well, which surprisingly is not much smaller than the Safeseat.
