Bringing up carseat safety

I just started going to a moms' group. It's great, but without being too nosy, I see a lack of proper carseat usage. I know it'd come off wrong pointing it all out already. People don't like to hear they are being unsafe with their kids. Any tips for spreading the word?

I know how you feel. I started by dropping hints.. little hints to the people I was closest too. Found out they were interested in getting it right so I ordered the booklets from usaa and put them out and in turn more people asked for information.

Make sure they see your proper usage and just start small. ask if they are interested in car seat safety and see if there are techs local to you that would allow you to hand out their card or info if asked.

Is there a tech in your area? Maybe you could bring up having a "car seat event" for one of your group get togethers, like this big fun thing that everyone can do! Then nobody will feel threatened or singled out, and hopefully it will get people interested.

Our Moms Club often does speakers at our business meetings. You could see if your local SafeKids could send someone.

I usually wait for a chance to talk about it. Sometimes I'll drop hints and vague comments and see if someone bites. If they do, then it's game on.

I try not to push the subject, because I've noticed that it tends to push people away and cover their ears in a figurative sense.

:yeahthat: That is exactly what I was going to suggest when I read the initial post.

Also, that way you are getting your seats checked as well so are on the same level as them rather than the other moms feeling offended that you are telling them that they are parenting wrong.
