Is there a max. height for RF in the BV?

The Recaro manuals stating a RF height limit has me wondering about my BV- does anyone know if there is a RF height limit? My manual is in dh's car and I want to know before he comes home :)

Britax allows RF until the top of the head is even with the top of the shell.

This is from the FAQs under Installation on their website:

Refer to your user’s guide and the labels affixed to the restraint for the appropriate height and weight ranges. Older restraints have a standing height limit of 30 inches rear-facing. As well, as required by Canadian regulations, there are height limits for restraints distributed in Canada. Newer restraints have no standing height for rear facing as infants grow at greatly varying rates; however, the child is too tall when the top of the head is even with the top of the shell.

Perfect, thanks. He has a lot of room to grow in the BV before his head will be even w/the top of the shell, and he's 33.5" tall. Not very much room in the Signo, though :(

I thought the Signo gets taller and taller? Lemme find the picture I thought I saw...oh, never mind, I know what you're saying... I say, ignore the 34 inch guideline and go with the 'one inch' rule. ;)

I really really want a reason to buy a Signo for him, but if he can't RF as long as in the BV, I just can't justify it :( He's almost 2.5, 33.5" tall and 26lbs. His sisters are tiny, too (4.5yo is 29lbs, and 7yo is 39lbs) so we can get our money's worth out of our seats, but that's not nearly as much fun as buying new seats ;)

Julie, would you really feel comfortable using the Signo for a child taller than 34" as long as his head was 1" below the top of the shell? If a CPST endorses it, I just might be able to be swayed ;)

ALL of our convertible seats in Canada with the exception of evenflo who gives the 1" rule, have a maximum rf'ing height limit of 32". Transport Canada themselves goes by the 1" of shell above their head if you call and ask them.

Height limits are guidelines, while they're listed on the seat, they're not set in stone the same way weight guidelines are. I have no problem with continuing to use a seat past the stated height limit. :twocents: Dd rf'ed in her MA until she was 38" tall - a full half a foot more than what the limit says. ;)

FWIW, my dd would've outgrown her MA by height before weight if ours had had a 33lb limit on it. She was almost even with the top of the shell and is hovering around 30lbs. ;) (Canadian MA's have a max rf'ing limit of 30lbs.)

Yup -- while weight limits are very strict ... height measurement limits are merely guidelines: because children carry their height differently (some in their legs, some in their torsos).

Leila was 4 yrs old when she outgrew the Bouelvard RF by both weight & height at the same time (she was 41" tall). She only had a couple more months in it FF before her shoulders were even with the top harness position & might have had a few more months then before they grew above the top harness position, but I handed it down to another baby in the family so Leila could use the Husky as her main seat.

It would have to be one long, skinny child to outgrow the taller Britax seats rf by height. :twocents:
That will most likely be my daughter. At almost 3 years old, she's maybe 26.5 pounds, fully clothed, and 35-36" tall. I expect her to outgrow all her seats, RFing and then FFing, by height before weight.

My girls will outgrow everything by height, too. 7yo DD is 39lbs, and 4.5yo DD is 29lbs. My 4.5y could probably ride in her MA until high school if weight was the only consideration LOL
