My kids' daycare is currently looking into whether or not to cancel outings for the little ones. Basically, it was brought to the director's attention that it may not be legal nor safe to transport toddlers and preschoolers on a school bus. The director spoke to the bus company who said that there are 8 anchors for seats per bus. The company denied any law against transporting unrestrained toddlers but admitted that they don't feel it's the safest thing to do.
Our daycare has always had a rule for the youngest kids (less than 3 years old), they need to be accompanied by a parent as you obviously can't leave a 9 month old "sitting" alone on a school bus seat.
The daycare is pretty large (nearly 100 kids), so we have kids of all ages between 6 month to 5 years and all size.
To me, a trip to the zoo isn't worth putting any kid at risk, legal or not, but to help our board make the best decision, is anyone aware of the regulations for school buses? We're in Quebec if that makes a difference
