Buckle problem- sunshine kids radian 80sl

We have had our radian 80sl for about 6 months now. My husband and I are concerned about the buckle and how tight it is on our son. We moved it out to the furthest slot position, but it is extremely tight and cuts into his stomach. If we loosen the straps, then they are extremely loose on top and only gives a little room in the buckle. I've taken it apart and can't seem to find an adjustment option for it. Please please help with suggestions. I hate putting him in this carseat.

Can you give us a little bit more information? How old/big is your child, is the seat rearfacing it forward facing? Are you using the infant padding?
If you could post a picture that would be helpful.
For what it's worth, my daughter rode comfortably in a xtsl at 5 years old, and my 3 yr old still fits nicely in the middle slot.
Edited to add, the buckle tongues (tongs as SSK called them) slide on the harness strap. So you can loosen the hip straps by sliding the buckle tongue up on the webbing. The crotch strap doesn't lengthen and shorten, though I think you might be able to order a longer crotch strap.

This might help, the extra inch or so on this strap made it easier/more comfy for my kids to buckle up as they got older... http://us.diono.com/en/replacement-parts/radian-center-buckle-strap?vmcchk=1 Also, only check for harness tightness on the shoulders, they should be snug there, but that means it might be sort of a tiny bit floppy over the chest, but there's no need to make them tight all the way down, just snug on the shoulders, really.
