In this non-ideal scenario.

a 60 lb 7 year old who does not pass the 5 step in no booster at all.....
or
same 7 year old in an old expired booster with no cover?

I think I would pick the old expired booster, in that at least the child would likely be fitting in the seatbelt better and I don't think the plastic would be likely to completely fall apart or fail in a crash. But that's just IMO.

I guess it would qualify as Emergency....we were having a family get together when out of no where my 4 year old cousin fell down & went into a Grand Mal seizure. The ambulance came, his mom & dad went to the hospital. Leaving the older siblings with my mom. The boys are 10 & 7...both NEEDED a booster, neither ride in one in their parents vehicle. My mom had an old 2004 backless turbo up in the garage that was my 13 yr old sisters...I grabbed it & made the 7 year old sit in it to go to the hospital....I thought it would be better than none, but I've questioned the decisions for the last hour....

the poor boy cried & cried bc he didnt want to ride in the baby seat. Even with the Turbo tho in my moms car the shoulder fit was very poor =[ The 10 year old also have a very poor fit with no booster....mehh at least it was a one time deal, I just hope I did the right thing.

In a true emergency where those were my only choices, I would definitely pick the expired booster over nothing.

A Turbo made in 2004 would only be 2 years expired. Way way better than nothing:thumbsup: I'm not nearly as concerned about expired boosters as I am about harnessed seats.

I agree. I consider a backless booster closer to a belt positioning device than a restraint (crash forces go to the seat belt, not the booster), so expired booster would definitely be the way to go. Don't second guess yourself too much either way. I hope the cousin's doing well.
