Question Highest harnessed weight limit and shell in Canada?

Hi, I have done a bit of searching but haven't quite found my answer. My friends little girl is 50 lbs at 3 years old and has outgrown her Marathon by height. Her mom is looking at boosters  and I am trying to convince her to get a harnessed seat instead. Problem is, obviously the child is huge and mom doesn't want to have to put out money for new seats again soon and wants to get three seats (mom, dad, grandma vehicles) so doesn't want to spend a lot per seat.

Am I right that Britax Frontier and Diono Radian are the tallest shells/slots available in Canada? Is 65 lbs FF the highest harness limit available here? Are there any shell/weight limit seats that are more budget friendly? Is there a good thread or blog post around that talks about high limit seats and compares them so I can point her to it? TIA!

Frontier and Nautilus are the best options. You can find the Nautilus on sale often at Canadian Tire and Walmart.

The Frontier would be my top pick since it has the tallest harness slots on the market. It also converts into a booster.
If you go to a smaller specialty shop and buy 2 or more, they will usually offer a discount. (Prices for the Britax should be the same across the board, since the Manu seats the retail prices $299)

How is the price point on the Evenflo SecureKid 300 or 400 (I remember you have one but can't remember which) there? It is almost as tall as the Nautilus and here it is significantly cheaper, so might make a good seat at least for grandma's car and probably get her to a safe part-time booster age there, if the same holds true on pricing.

It's $200 here and I'm fairly sure that the only place to get it is BRU. They have the nautilus for $250.

What are the actual harness slot heights in the Frontier, Nautilus, RXT and Securekid? Are they all up to 65 lbs FF harnessed and up to 100 lbs booster?

[ame="http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B007M7XZ2O/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&smid=A3DWYIK6Y9EEQB"]Frontier is $241 on Amazon right now.[/ame] I had one ordered and the shipping date was mid October. I cancelled it when the local store matched my price. Since they were holding my deposit I put down for insurance, I was thrilled!

Make sure the mom knows the different top harness height differences. The classic Marathon had 17" harness slots, and the Securekid 18", w/ 18.5" for Graco Nautilus and 19.5" for the Frontier. I'd be pretty upset as a parent if I spent even $100 and then the seat lasted a year or less and I wasn't aware of that. 1" torso lasting a year for most kids after 2yo.

Best of luck!

I know I found it on the Sears website at one point. $50 price difference is about what it is between it and the Nautilus here, too. But if you can get a Frontier for $40 more, that seems significantly more worth it to me! (The Frontier is 20.5", not 19.5".)

It's wrong by my measurements. I consistently measure 20.25-20.5 depending on compression. PM or resubmit numbers on the form to correct errors.

Thanks! Now that I see the numbers, I think I've read the Frontier being ~20" before, I know that 0.5-1" doesn't really matter, it's taller, but to someone spending that kind of money on an older/taller child, the year estimate can make a big enough difference that they may (or may not) opt to buy it...When kids are getting close, like both mine were, it becomes a really hard decision!

It's even harder when they're 6yo+. My 6 3/4yo was on the top slots of the GN and one of the reasons I went Oobr vs Frontier is 1" for one year of growth for the seat just wasn't practical. This is a good reason to buy YDS the Oobr (if I like it when I eventually get to see it). I *love* that rigid latch the Oobr has!

I can pass along my Maestro for a spare and keep the Frontier for long trips, as originally planned...
