am I completely mistaken? I swear I heard/read somewhere that britax has said not to use volvo's rear facing tether anchors but for the life of me I can't find this info anywhere. I know it was said SOMEWHERE because it surprised me and therefore stuck.. I just can't find any info.

I don't know about Britax saying anything, but I know there has been discussion about Volvo saying those aren't really tether points and not to use them.

I am not sure about no vehicle, but some have specifically said not to, I think others have just said nothing.

It won't allow me to read the thread that was posted, so I can't get the info... I would love to know, though, because I currently have our rear-facing Advocate tethered behind the driver's seat. There's a little metal "hook" type thing under the seat that just seemed like it was meant to be a tether anchor?!

In a nutshell, Volvo says the rf tethers are not intended to be used with American style seats which are tethered at the top.

Is there another way to link to that thread? I can't view it either because I don't have sufficient privileges?? I have a friend who will only drive Volvos and only use Britax and I am fairly certain they are RF tethering. Would love to be able to pass the info on to them.
Thanks!

apparently it also potentially interferes with the WHIPS system volvo says.

I can't repost the tech forum thread but I will find more info. If you search this site for "volvo WHIPS" you will find more post about it. It's a bit confusing... there are threads that reference other threads and it's a lot of jumping around.

ultimately, you have to do your own research on rear facing tethering and make a parental decision. if in doubt, don't.... the seat passes testing without it.

You mentioned Volvo says no because our seats tether from the top... What about Diono?
I haven't done any research nor am I going to at this point. If I come across it I will at that point. Just peeked my interest a bit is all.

diono seats (all north american seats) tether at the top of the seat. volvo doesn't like this for whatever reason. I read one thread where someone called to ask about it and three engineers called back to make sure she understood it was not allowed, so they must have a good reason. it falls under the "we can't do it because the manufacturer says so" category :)
