Question Projectiles

I know I'm probably in the wrong section to be posting this but I was hoping someone could help me out.

I am crazy about my kids safety, obviously especially in the car. My little guy is 2.5, 30 lbs in a diono RXT rfing and will be rfing as long as possible. My baby girl is only 1 month old and is in a peg. Anyways here's my issue. I recently read and realized how dangerous items can be in the car. I have completely cleared out my van. I have a quinny zapp that I have seat belted down for now to prevent it from flying around in case of an accident. My city elite is in the back trunk, and I put the 2 back head rests up so it can't come up if we were to get in an accident. (not sure if that is an effective barrier??)

So I was wondering what other people do to secure their items in the car. (diaper bag, groceries, strollers, etc).... If someone could please help me out that would be awesome!!!

TIA!

You said you have a van, and I have an Odyssey, so I'll tell you what I do. The stroller, like yours, is in the back with all the 3rd row head rests up. For groceries, we have a cargo net for the back or we tuck the grocery bags under the stroller if there aren't that many. I'm assuming a cargo net would break free in a crash, but I'm thinking that with all of those bags/items in there, it's not going to be able to fly over the small space between the 3rd row headrests and the roof. If we have a lot of stuff, say we've gone to Costco, or we're on a trip, we just tightly pack the back with heaviest items on bottom.

If we need to move larger items, we put down the 3rd row seats and use ratcheting straps.

Okay that's what I was thinking... What do you do with smaller items you are bringing like on a day trip (ie diaper bag etc)?? I suppose that wouldnt be too bad but I'm just trying to be as safe as possible..

Thanks!:)

Pack the heavy stuff to the bottom and inside, the light stuff on top and to the outside. Compartmentalize, basically! Pack them tightly together so they hit other stuff instead if having room to move. This kept us safe from projectiles in our rollover.

The diaper bag I just throw into the very back, headrests up. I also don't keep anything hard or heavy in it, so I'm not too worried about it.
