3 across...TIGHT

So, my van broke down the other day. That was a bummer, especially as I was en route with the 3 kids on an out of town trip.

Anyway, while we are trying to figure out the van's issues, I put the carseats in the Saturn for the first time. It's an Ion, and the baby is in a Snugride (low weight limit one) and my almost 6 year old twins are in Parkways. It is TIGHT. I think it's ok but how do I know for sure that they are all safe?

Also, the girls' belts are REALLY difficult to reach because they go right down in the seat, plus there is no space to reach in. I have to reach underneath and it's like threading a needle.

Is there anything I could do to help this situation?

a) Would Belt Biters help, or would there even be room down there, do you think?

b) Would turboboosters be narrower? I wouldn't mind getting back up boosters anyway so I'd be open to buying those.

c) I've been planning to buy a convertible soon for the baby (he is 5 months). Would a RF marathon or blvd be bigger or smaller when puzzled in to the back seat?

I really hope this is a temporary situation but to save money our mechanic may take a couple weeks.

If the Snugride is tight without the Parkways next to it, then all should be good. Installing the Snugride baseless should get you more room.

A convertible might sit up higher, or something like a Radian may give more room. So those are options.

I don't know that I'd add anything to make it easier to buckle. I'd probably see what changing the install (baseless, new seat) does for it first.

You could always try leaving the the booster belts done up and having the kids climb up and into it, all the while trying not to switch the belt into locking mode.

Thanks guys. These are good ideas. I didn't think of baseless or trying to get them in with the seat belt still buckled. If we could work that it would be great since the seats are not latched so need to be buckled when vacant also.
