disposing of an expired seat

We have a marathon that's just about expired. There are no recycling centers nearby, and I don't need to save it for a trade-in. How do I dispose of it safely? I'm going to sell the cover. Are any other parts sellable? Do I need to contact for a special pickup?

Depending where you live there may be a carseat recycling program.

Otherwise safe the cover, cut the straps and write crashed/do not use on the shell and put it in a black bag in the trash.

Or you can do what I do and take it a step farther!

After taking off the cover and cutting the straps, and writing "Do Not USE - crashed" on it, I dump old salsa or tomato sauce on it and nasty ol' used kitty litter. *evil grin* Who would dare to touch it after that?
