I've never seen a crash test- do they even do them? I know the manufacturers of trucks say the jump seats "aren't intended for transporting passengers on public roads" and don't hold them to the same standards...

No clue! I am hoping to find something. I want to tell these home schooling, limo seated school bus driving moms something more than, "it wasn't tested that way".

The moms drive limos?

ETA: Wait, buses? LOL I want a link.

But yeah, I'm not sure what's out there in terms of tests or standards. I don't think back seats are really regulated, but I could be wrong.

A side facing seat in a frontal crash (most common, highest speeds) is the same as a side impact in a forward facing seat. While side impacts are less common, they are the deadliest type. The human body doesn't handle forces from the side very well, and vehicles don't provide significant restraint that way either.

When you ride in a side facing seat, you are basically combining the frequency and high speeds of frontal crashes with the lack of restraint plus inability of the human body to handle side forces. A perfect storm of sorts.

As for regulations for back seats, I know there are webbing strength requirements, lap/should requirements in recent years, that sort of thing. No back seat frontal crash testing requirements. There are side impact tests but I'm not sure if they are optional or required.

Exactly what kind of vehicle are we talking about? Probably anything with side facing seats and lap only belts is either too old for current standards or over the weight/occupancy limits so the standards don't apply.

How many seats are there? Are they transporting other people's kids or just their own? Does your state have special licensing requirements for such things?

They all have lots of kids. My dad used to drive one. Don't remember him having to have a special license.

Ok, so what about the side impact crash tests that were linked before? Anyone can find those? I think that would be a start.

That would be awesome! Well, I sent the video to the mom, and she doesn't understand why the belt would loosen. This is the vehicle they will use, no way to get something else, and a safe way must be found.

I am wondering if the seats can be moved back to normal ffing.
