aoe rfing height limit

This is something I've been wondering about for awhile. I have heard it's 1 inch from the top of the shell, but since no other dorel seat goes by the 1 inch rule, I wasn't sure if I could believe that. Today, at walmart, I noticed that the safety 1st aoe had the manual attached, so I read it. It is the rf to 35 and ff to 50 pound version. It simply states the rfing limit to be 35 pounds and 36 inches. Nothing about headrest positions, the shell, or any 1 inch rule. In the warnings section is says not to use the seat if the ears are above the headrest. So, what say you about the rfing height limit? What about a super tall torsoed 36 inch kid?

There is no way, that even a super tall torsoed kid is going to be within 1 inch of the top of the headrest by 36 inches. none. A child would literally have to be legless for that to happen. Most kids at 36 inches have HUGE amounts of shell still over their head. So by using such a freakishly short absolute height limit (36 inches) dorel has effectively made it impossible for a kid to come anywhere near the top of the shell.

The RF height limit is 36" or head even with the top of the shell, whichever comes first.

I'm going to live up to my title and wonder why we keep having these discussions. Dorel imposes what seems like absurdly short RFing height limits on many of its seats. Some people are comfortable disregarding those limits. Others aren't. I'm not, but I can see both sides. But it's the same discussion over and over.

Yes, they really do mean it. What you do with that information is up to you.

Can a super tall torsoed 36 inch kid go above the shell (not the adjustable headrest) of the aoe? I've heard 1 inch from the top of the shell a lot and people say it's shorter than the scenera (but I haven't measured).

It's taller than the Scenera. There's no way a child would outgrow it by height before 36" unless the child didn't have any legs.
