Adjustable belt position in rear-facing Brtiax Marathon 70

The instruction manual says that the adjustable crotch belt should be closest to the child when used in the rear-facing position. My son, who still has an inch and 8-9 lbs before he has to switch to forward-facing, has started to fuss/cry every car ride that the belt buckle is "hurting my penis." Unless the belt straps are severely too loose, the plastic buckle appears to be too snug. He practically sits on it. Moving the buckle to the outer position would resolve the problem, but it appears that I would have to switch him to forward-facing. Are there other solutions?

Thanks! That helps a lot! I'm sorry I didn't find that post earlier because it really is spot on and the answers address my problem exactly.
