Well color me shocked. Three Marathons do NOT fit FF across the 3rd row of a '99 suburban. Two Marathons and a Graco snugride BASE don't fit either. I'm actually pretty surprised since the seat "feels" big to me.

There are 12" between the outer "wings" of the Marathons at the widest points. 18" base to base. Can someone please take detailed Radian measurements for me? Distance from the back of the seat out to the farthest point out on the wings at the widest point? I want to make sure it'll puzzle in before I buy one and there are NONE locally to try.

I will flag Mel/Strollerfreak (a tech), as she's got a '99 Suburban herself :). Hopefully, she'll be able to help you out.

I had a '97, and they wouldn't fit. But they do in my 2000. So not sure when they made a change. Well, it's actually not 3 MA's...what works best IMO...is a DC in the middle for the lap only install...have a heck of a hard time installing a MA there due to the bars...with 2 MA's outboard.

And you have to install it in a certain order. Center seat first. Then the outboard ones. I'll post a pic when photobucket is back up.

OK, here is the 3rd row in my 2000 Sub. This was just a test install (thus no HUGS on the MA in the middle...it was rf before this!). MA in center w/2 DCs outboard.

I've since changed it and now have the DC center and 2 MA's outboard.

DC is a decathlon? We have one of those. I might ask DH to attempt that in the middle tonight. I thought they were the same shell?

I tried the Radian in the 3rd row of my '99 Suburban...it was an absolute no-go...I've got video proof too.

Sorry it's sideways...I forgot to tell DH that I couldn't turn a video after it was shot. This was with me trying all the tricks I could think of, and having DH throw his weight around to help me install it as well. As you can see it still moves way more than the acceptable 1". The center lap belt was even worse.

The only setup I've gotten to work in my third row with 3 seats was this...
3rdRowFPRAFP.jpg

2 Fisher Price Futura's outboard with a Roundabout in the center. Also it HAS to be a Roundabout with the New style base...I tried my old style base RA there first and it would NOT work. Also, I'm sure that if you took the Futura's out the RA would be loose...how loose, I'm not sure, but I felt comfortable using it like it was.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do when my Futura's expire and/or my oldest gets too tall for them...I think I'm going to end up with either Go's (have to try them first) or SafeRider vests or some kind of harness.

The are the same shell...but without the bars, it installs much easier. Again, I couldn't do this in my '97. Just in my '00. In my '97, I had a CarGo in the center w/2 MA's outboard, and that worked fine. When I got the '00, I discovered I had more room in the 3rd row...I first tried it w/a RA in center, which worked...so I tried the MA and voila!!!! But installing the MA in the center w/the LATCH bars is a PITA. The DC is much easier. Which body style is the '99?? The '00 is the newer, not the newest...but newer body style. My '97 was the older body style.

There's no way I could get three-across in the third row of my '93 Suburban, but in the 2nd row I can get two Husky/Regents and a MA!

Right now we have 2 MA in the 3rd row and 1 MA, 1 DC and 1 graco snugride in the second row. Problem is it's downright impossible to buckle the third row kids now, in winter it will only be worse. Plus the FF child between the two RF kids in the middle row is NOT working (hits, pinches, wakes, etc.).

I am SO impressed with this. Right now I just have a Regent in my 3rd row of my 2001 Yukon XL (GMC version of the Suburban). But we are hoping to talk the dealership in to another tether anchor for the 3rd row and will put DS#2 in his MA, outboard behind the passenger, leaving DS #1 in his Regent, outboard behind the driver. The 3rd row seat is quite a bit more narrow than the middle row seat.

I get you on the FF kid not working. Why will it be harder in winter though?

Winter around here = feet upon feet of snow. Walking the kids out in that and having them climb over the back of the 3rd row and back into the carseat will have muddy snow ALL over. Add in having to kneel to buckle them with a door open in subzero temps... eh. Makes me want to curl back up under the blankets!!

Oh, and they so rarely close ANYTHING for snow here!
