A good seat for grandma's...

Looking at the Cosco Scenera to keep at my parent's house.

Mom drives a Chevy HHR 2010ish?
Dad drives a Chevy Silverado 1500 crew cab 2009ish?

DD is currently 4.5 months 24 1/4 inches and 13.9lbs. She'll fit in our Chicco for awhile longer, but I'm not wanting to buy another bucket seat for their house...I'd rather something that could be used longer...especially since they may use it for other grandkids as well. They have a seven grandkids total...three still in car seats and #8 is on the way. I am open to other convertible seats that may fit better in either or both of those vehicles, but I'm looking for something <$120.

It's a fine choice. Other choices in that price range are the Safety 1st Guide65, Evenflo SureRide, and (sometimes) Graco MyRide.

You could use your chicco keyfit baseless in their vehicles.

Do you want a seat that is easy to adjust between different grandkids?

My only worry about the Scenera is it can be difficult to install with a proper recline for a newborn. I have one for my baby boy and it takes 2 towels rolled together to get it to 45*. Other than that it fits them well, at least my older son, who was 8lbs. We'll have to see how big his baby bro is going to be. I make the parental decision to start installing it less reclined as my child gains in back and neck strength, but I believe Dorel (parent company of Cosco that makes the Scenera) states that they must always be reclined so that the line is level.

Given that the plan is to use it for other children as well, I would try to get a seat with a no rethread harness to increase the likelihood the seat is being used correctly. Would it be possible for them to chip in to increase your budget a bit? The Evenflo Triumph rear faces to 40 pounds and forward faces to 65 pounds and would allow most children until around age 5 to be harnessed. The Evenflo Momentum is similar.
