is this a good argument?

First off, I'm not doing this. I was just speaking with a friend and this was her argument and I'm truly not sure if she has a point or not so I'm asking the experts. :)

Her son (6 or 7) rides in the car in no sort of car seat or booster seat. I explained that the shoulder belt needs to be at x spot and the lap belt needs to be on the lap. She said the lap belt IS on his lap and he sits in the middle where it's a lap only belt so he doesn't need a booster.

Thoughts on how I can explain to her that he does need one?

You can't use a booster with a lap belt. And lap belts aren't safe for anyone.

Do any of her available seating positions have a shoulder belt? If not, she may have meant that she only has lap belts and thus can't use a booster. If that's the case, there may be other options though. There are vests available in the U.S. (I'm not familiar with them, others will be though) or using the front seat with a booster.

Or maybe she's heard the middle is the safest and that's why he's there. And knows you can't use a booster with a lap belt.

I'm one handed NAKing but hopefully someone can link you to the safety concerns with lap belts.

Thank you! I knew you could give me some good info to pass on :)

And the other two seats in the back have the lap and shoulder belt. It's only the middle that has lap only.
