Replace lbb after being checked on airline??

Does it matter with a lbb like it matters with a harnessed seat?? Should I replace it or is it okay?

My husband and son traveled home on a different flight than the rest of us, and I forgot to remind him that car seats don't get checked. It's a Harmony Lite, if that makes any difference.

Does the seat appear to have stress marks on it? For me personally, I probably would be fine using it if it appeared in good condition. I would probably have a different view for a harnessed seat that was checked though.

To me, you don't know what it went through. (I've seen them bounce car seats off the tarmac falling from the plane, pick them up, and put them on the cart.) You don't know what microscopic damage could have been done. And it's a $14 seat. I'd just replace it and that way there wouldn't be even a teensy spec of worry over it.

I have checked quite a few backless boosters without concern. Honestly, if there's no damage you can see, there's no damage. The life of a seat from factory to store shelf is *hard* (no, really, they throw and drop them everywhere, all the time...off the truck, off the top shelves...it's as brutal or worse than baggage handlers).

I disagree. There's a big difference between a few feet fall off a truck or shelves and a several hundred foot forcible throw with a five foot bounce off blacktop, to me. We know that not all damage is visible even after a crash. In boosters where there are armrests that act to hold down the belt, at least, stress could be put on vulnerable point that probably wouldn't lead to complete failure but definitely wouldn't lead to optimal performance... I'm paranoid, I suppose, but it comes of regularly flying from an airport where they still use stairs on the runway to embark and disembark. You can see EVERYTHING they're doing to the gate-checked luggage. And some of it is pretty horrifying (and explains why I've seen so many broken strollers and car seats come off planes.) >_<

A backless booster packed in with clothes and such-like in a suitcase, then checked, I probably wouldn't worry about. A backless booster checked unprotected or virtually so? Yeah, I'd never be comfortable putting a kid in that again, myself.

It would never dawn on me to replace a checked booster. I'd use of without hesitation. And I do.

Not true. Big difference between the treatment of a commercial item to be sold and an airline having to meet time restraints and are pressured to get all the bags on board-now! Usually car seats are packaged and they're delivered without all the big hurry. It's also in their interest to have their merchandise in good shape. Not true for the airlines.

Also, damage is NOT always visible. There's no way to be sure.

I'm not sure where you got that information but it's not correct.

Boosters are too easy to replace. Just do it!

When we get shipments of backless boosters, they are usually packed in boxes of 6, so they have a box to protect them. Plus they can't sell seats that are damaged, so they do take care to keep them in good shape on their way to stores. Airline people don't care one way or another as long as its on the right plane in the right time frame. (My ex husband was a baggage handler for a while)

If there is no damage you can see, its not damaged? Really? B/c there have been seats in full on crashes that look just fine, yet I wouldn't use it again! Not all damage is visible.

OP - its a cheap seat, replace it so you don't have to worry about it! (I use a crashed, usually coverless, backless booster for my 5yr old at the dinner table so he can reach his food, its easy to wipe clean, and light and easy to move around - so it still gets good use, just not in the car, not that he is big enough for a booster anyway!)

I would use it. But if it makes you uncomfortable, get another one and keep the checked one as an emergency backup.

:yeahthatlove: It's a $17 booster correct? I'd replace it. Keep the checked one for emergency backup and/or table use
