Myles must have taken his gun out of his mouth and put a wad on his strap. How three heck can I get that out without ruining my straps? Argh!

If ice doesn't work heat up a cup of white vinegar place a tooth brush in it and gently scrub the gum off should come right off and should barely get the straps wet. i had to figure out how to get gum out of my daughters school uniform that worked like a charm

I'm not sure I'm comfortable with even a small amount of intentionally applied vinegar on the strap.

Ds got gum on his strap once, I mostly kept rubbing it with a washcloth and the bits "rolled" off. Got the majority off, but took a while. I didn't put anything on it at all, I think the washcloth was just dry too.
