Question Infant seat that will ft a small 2-door car?

We have a very small 2-door Mercedes c230k (that is paid off) and I don't think it will be possible for us to afford to get a 4-door before our first baby is due.  I know we need a seat that will be narrow enough to mount in the center of the backseat with the latch system.  Anyone have experience with a seat that will work for this small 2-door car? I know Mercedes makes an infant seat that should work but the $400+ price tag is a bit much. We were looking at the Chicco Keyfit 30 as a possible option. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

 Thanks!

Welcome. Congrats on your upcoming baby!

You can't use LATCH in the center of your Mercedes. However, LATCH is not safer (it's supposed to be easier, but instead there are a lot of confused parents like yourself who will easily misuse it) and the center will probably provide the best fit. Will there be a passenger? If not, you may find it more comfortable to put the baby on the passenger side (then LATCH or the seatbelt is an option).

The Keyfit would be high on my list. As would the Graco Snugride 30, and the convertible the Combi Coccoro.

Thank you for your response and kind words :)

Hmmm...well the center seat doesn't have a seatbelt and if we use the passenger side won't we have to worry about the side airbags? Also, if we were to use a convertable seat how would we get the baby in the seat if it was on the passenger side? I had my SO check the car and there are defiantly some metal latches around the middle seat but maybe those are not meant for the middle seat?

I am finding this whole process very confusing :\ thanks for your help!

Ok, you made me look up your car in the LATCH manual. You don't have a center backseat. That's why there's no seatbelt. Double check your car manual, but my LATCH manual says the 2002-2005 C class sports coupe has LATCH on either side, two top tethers, and nothing in the center.

Most parents who have a two door car with a small backseat will move the driver's seat forward, lean in and put the baby and/or seat on the back passenger side, and then put their seat back and get in and drive.

Side curtain airbags aren't a concern. At worst they'll do nothing, at best they'll actively work to protect your child.
