Motorhome question

My Dad has an older motorhome which he bought off of his father, When they were kids, my grandfather had a seatbelt installed on the raised center platform between the captain's chairs. I have seen the seatbelt and looked closely, it is bolted to the frame, if for some reason I were to take DS camping with my father in this motorhome, along with my Dad's goddaughter (2) in your opinion, would this seatbelt be safe for a rfing seat? there is no seat back there, the seatbelt is a lapbelt only installed for my aunt when they adopted her a long time ago

No. From what you're describing, absolutely not. There is no seat, the belt is just sitting there? Nope nope nope. There is nothing to brace the seat against... just tying it to the floor won't work.

thought so, but wanted to see what someone else thought. I guess the table also has 2 ffing seatbelts (pretty darn good for an ancient motorhome)

Unfortunately they're not attached to anything secure. :(

And can not be used for car seats either for that reason. Plus the clearances on the dinette table are no where near large enough to prevent the kids in or not in car seats from striking the table in the event of a severe crash. Add to that the seatbelt mounting and seat structures on dinettes or the captains chairs don't useally come close to meeting the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards required for cars, SUV's and light trucks.
It is sad to say but RVs just don't cut it when it comes to CPS.
My suggestion would be to follow along behind them in a car so that you know that the kiddos as restrained properly. Might not be practical but it is the only safe option. :twocents:

Here is another thread talking about car seats in RV from a few months ago.

I assumed the OP was talking about a console between the driver's and passenger seats, up front? Not that that would make it particularly safer, since there is no seat back, although maybe it is actually bolted to the frame same as those seats, so a little more sturdy. (I am again assuming that those seats would not just be bolted to a plywood floor.)

OK, in an RV I can't imagine a console in the middle between the front seats as in a typical RV your main entrance to the whole RV is the passenger door and a console would make the rest of the RV less excesable. But then if the RV entrance is in the middle of the side of the RV a console would make both front seats less excesable. :shrug-shoulders:
But then again I am having a hard time imaging the seat belt set up that the OP is describing. This must be a very old motorhome.
