My son told me that I was like a super hero for saving babies.

The Evenflo "On My Way" was my first carseat for DS1 back in 1997! I still see them occasionally at check events which is always kinda scary. Thanks for getting that one out of circulation!

I believe there is a 6 year expiration date for car seats because of plastic and padding degradation. Please check into that if you plan on using these or giving these to people for use.

I rescued a 2002 Touriva OHS from a yard sale yesterday. I love it when I can make those kind of saves :) I'm going to my sister's this coming weekend and we're going yard saleing in her area. I have a feeling I'll find lots of old seats based on what I've seen on CL in her area.

Welcome to car-seat.org. :) It's very common for regulars here to post about rescuing old/used carseats from the curb but the intent is not to reuse them with their own child(ren) or anyone else's children. More on that in a moment. :) It's true that carseats typically have an expiration after which they should be retired from use. Some expire after 6 years and some have longer or shorter expirations, all depending on their manufacturer's instructions. Used carseats in general even if they are not expired are also very iffy if they have unknown histories as they could have been crashed, recalled, or otherwise damaged and should not be used, just like expired seats, other than possibly for training purposes for CPST courses/training. That all said, please rest assured the original poster isn't intending to reuse the "rescued" carseats to transport children. Instead, she's actually "rescuing" them from the curb to keep someone else from grabbing them who isn't as informed about the pitfalls of expired/used carseats and who might otherwise unwittingly allow a child to use them. She presumably will either dispose of them in a way that renders them completely unusable or route them to a local to her facility that recycles the plastic and/or metal components, or possibly donate the carseats to a Safe Kids coalition who would use the old carseats only for training purposes.

Thanks! I had no idea about this kind of rescue! Absolutely brilliant! :)

I rescued them before someone else picked them up and used them.

It looked like the people were moving and just putting stuff at the curb as they went. I saw the white seat from the street on our way to church and knew for sure that it was expired. Trash won't be picked up until Thursday and I didn't want to chance someone picking them up in the meantime.

I can turn them in at the fire station and they will take care of them, or I can cut the harness straps and either write on the shell not to use, or beat the shell to crap with a sledge hammer. I'm voting sledge hammer.
