Ok so we have always had a van up until now. We just bought an SUV and now I can't just move the van captains seat forward to make it more secure rear facing. I don't know how normal it is for the seat to be able to move up and down. It doesn't move side to side really...well way more then it did in the van. It is as secure and tight as it will get and I hate how it moves. Now my daughters nautilus is so tight its like its glued but its forward facing and has the top tether attached as well...my question is even not tight tight is my two year and eight month old still safer then a rock solid tight forward facing. It drives me nuts because my daughter was rear facing til four and I want to do it again but this looseness is a huge worry to me.

I agree I have the myride 65 and I wasn't sure about the install either. However I now know that I do have a good install because it moves less than an inch at the seatbelt path. It does move a little if I tug it from the top or middle of the seat. But as long as it doesn't move at the seatbelt path your fine.

If you grab the top of any rearfacing seat and try to lift it up, it will lift up a bit towards the car's seat, unless it's one w/a rear facing tether in use.
That's normal and they are all tested w/that movement. In an accident, a rearfacing seat will flip up and into the seat back, and it creates what they've termed a "cacooning" effect. It is effective at preventing some types of injuries.

As long as the seat doesn't move more than 1 inch side to side when you grab it at the belt path, it's safe. It doesn't have to be a "rock the car" install to be safe. As long as the seat is snug enough, less than one inch at the belt path, rearfacing is far preferable to forward facing under 3-4 yrs old.

Awesome, thank you so much that is exactly what I needed to know and yep it doesn't move at the belt path area so he will stay backwards :)
