3 across in a Saturn Ion

A friend needs to configure a three across in her Ion. I'm not in her state to play musical car seats so I can't help much. Anyone do this? The three across thread is too long for me to look through all the pages.

She is TTC so by the time the baby is born she will have a boostered 5, possibly 6 by then, year old and a 2, possibly 3 year old. Older one in a SG Parkway and younger one in a FF Radian (he's RFing now but will be FFing by then if it's needed for puzzling purposes). I know the Shuttle and BabyTrend are the narrowest...I saw pics of the booster and Radian outboard and it just doesn't seem like there is much space in the middle. The Parkway and Radian don't puzzle so they don't fit well side by side.

help? Seat suggestions, whether its an infant seat suggestion or different seats for the older kids? And infant seat is a must. She's not interested in going straight to a convertible.

Um. My SIL used to have one. Honestly ... it's not a very wide back seat. We had a mixture of: GN & SS1, TF & SS1, GN & Scenera, GN & AO ...

Hm. It's a shame she just sold it or I could play. I just don't know if it'd be possible!

Yeah from the pic it looks pretty small. Apparently it's a 48" wide space according to the manual. From the pic she sent me (that I'm trying to attach but photobucket is being stupid) it looks like a FF Radian, RF Radian, and Parkway would work in that order, but she really wants the infant seat.

I have a 2005 Saturn Ion. I've done several 3 acrosses with it. The easiest one was a RFing Blvd (65), RFing Radian, and a Mico. I could also get the RFing Blvd, RFing Radian, and my niece's harmony backless. I've never tried any combos with a Parkway.

I actually love that car for carseat installs. Every seat has been easiest to install in it even when compared to our "larger" cars or our old CR-V. 3-across has also always been easy.

I'd put the Radian in the middle (rfing or ffing, whichever gets the better fit with the Parkway next to it, as long as the middle child is 3yo), put the Parkway behind the driver, and get a squarish base-d infant seat to puzzle with the Radian. It's totally doable. If anyone in the Inland Empire has a Parkway to play with, I have a Radian and an Ion. We could try it our for you.

If her 2yo is small enough to stay RF until the baby graduates the bucket, they might be able get a Monterey outboard with RF RN center. Those two puzzle really well.

My 48" row generally requires high & low-profile seats going the same direction, but it's a 60/40 split and a bench will give more options.

Moonmommy has an Ion (I think) and a Radian, if you want to pm her she might have some ideas.

I have an ion coupe (back two doors are suicide doors) so I don't know how much help this is...

I have my radian behind the passenger and there is very little room in the front seat. I can ride there (I'm 5'9" with long legs) but its tight. The radian does install beautifully back there with the angle adjuster and either seat belt or latch!

We had a keyfit there before the radian and it was equally as wonderful!

Sorry I can't help with the 3 across... I don't have three seats back there!

Maybe switch the booster for a Vivo? Those are narrow and don't have the side flare out. The Radian is a pain because it flares out right where the foot portion of the infant seat will hit, making it impossible to snap it in and out of a base.

I haven't worked with a Vivo, I'm not sure. I can upload photos of the Monterey when I get home this evening, to show you what I'm talking about there, and maybe you'll be able to tell if the Vivo's shape is similar enough to give it a fighting chance?

Eta: also, you can use the search function to check the 3-across thread, if that helps any...

Hmmmm so maybe a RFing Radian center and infant seat and Monterey outboard? Never would have thought of that! I just thought the Vivo because it's so straight on the sides.

Search feature within the thread? I dunno if I can do that on the iPad...I'll have to try, lol. I don't think you can.

Yes, that was my suggestion above lol. ;) Maybe search isn't available on the ipad? I will grab measurements when I pull those photos up tonight.

I did a rfing Radian with a Peg bucket and a Monarch awhile back in an Ion. I can't remember what the order was, but I want to say the Radian was behind the driver because I remember it being braced.

Carrie, just realized the Monterey won't work. No headrests. :(

Kimberly, you're probably more up to date on boosters than me...I know the Monarch isn't made anymore but is there something similar? Isnt the Probooster kind of shaped the same or no? I've never considered the peg...didn't think they were that narrow. Hm. Do you know if the Monarch requires headrests (assuming she could snag one in swap)?

Yeah, The Probooster is pretty similar in shape and size. I think the Chicco one is too. The Peg isn't narrow particularly, but the widest part is the handle and it is high enough to puzzle well with the low profile of the RN and to be above the door handle. The front of the base is really narrow and it makes buckling a booster next to it easy as long as you do it before you put the carrier in the base.

Well, darn. And the ProBooster needs headrests, too. (Is the 6yo tall enough for that to be an issue?)
