Question Straps too low or too high?

I got my daughter a Radian and am not happy with either of the two harness slots she's between. The lower slots are too low - it's hard to keep the harness tight. But the higher ones are too high. They're more than at her shoulders.

Which is preferable?

Is she rear facing or forward facing?

For rear facing seats you can grab the straps from behind and pull back then tighten the adjustor strap.

She's RF. I already do the pull from the back method. There's just so much strap going up her back that her shoulders look like they could come out at any point.

It's bedtime now but I'll post pics in the am.

Have you actually adjusted the harness one slot up when she was buckled in, instead of eying the next slot up? She may have been pushed down farther when the harness were below her shoulders. I hope I make sense :)

I would rather have the harness slightly above her shoulders than have the harness not on her shoulders. :twocents:

I had the same issue and I was advised to move the straps up a slot so they would stay on her shoulders. But actually, once I got the angle adjuster I was able to move the straps down again and they're fine. I guess gravity makes her sit a little lower when the seat is more upright. I think the problem might be partly that the lower slots are angled (on my older Radian anyway) so they slip off narrow shouldered children.

I'd need a pic toknow for sure, buti agree. When a child is *almost at * the next higher set of slots, and if there is a decently big gap between slots, sometimes I will err on the side of the higher slot. But technically, for RFing, you want at or below.
I know that in my car, my sons RFing CA slots are probably a half inch above after he settles in and slouches down, but it's still a better fit than the slot below.

Looks like the same thing as what Boots said. I did actually use both slots, but once I had it in at a better angle she settled in a little lower and I'm happy with the lower setting. Thanks for the tips!

I love that you were able to get one for her. And yep, funky harness settings, for a lot of people, including my daughter. Glad it worked out for you.

DS rides in an 80 and an XTSL... and oddly enough, I can have them installed in the exact same seat the exact same way, and he's on 2 different straps - in the 80, he needs the 3rd slot (highest slanty one) and but in the XT he's on the 2nd from the top (lower horizontal one). In all honesty, he's maybe a quarter of an inch below the straps in the XT, but it's a parental decision I'm OK with making. But in the 80 it's more like half to 3 quarters of an inch  Totally weird (and yes, I use a frosting spreader "knife"
to make sure it's not just the cover throwing it off and making it look a certain way)
