Just had a client come to my home for an install

And holy cow, I have never seen a more perfect install. Seriously, like the only thing wrong was that he was FF'ing and even the harness was tight and chest clip correct. It was a Britax Roundabout 55 and she even read the car seat manual (3 times) and the cars manual.....
He was only 14m old so I gave her tips to keep him happy and he left rear-facing with rear-tether installed (luckily I have extras for these situations).
I told her she should become a tech b/c well she would make a great tech.

In the over 50 seats I have checked, I have never dealt with a perfect install. I guess that is why I am so excited.

Sorry I had to get that out with a group of people that totally understand.

That is so great! To have them leave safer, how thrilling!

I'm curious, she was so conscientious of the manuals and such, why did she think FF at 14 months was okay?

This is why I'm curious, I get irritated when I see in car seat manuals or on boxes "forward facing from 1 year and 20 pounds", it just makes it sound like that's what you are supposed to do.

While I love what the NHTSA and AAP are doing with their recommendations, the wording "All infants and toddlers should ride in a Rear-Facing Car Seat until they are 2 years of age or until they reach the highest weight or height allowed by their car seat’s manufacturer" makes it sound like when they reach the weight/height limits of the infant carrier you should FF, "Once outgrown the rear-facing car seat, they are ready to travel in a FORWARD-FACING car seat with a harness."

To us it's obvious that there is another step between infant seats and combo seats, but to the "regular" parent just reading or skimming these things I think it's anything other than obvious.

I've had 4 private checks. 1 was perfect. 1 was almost perfect- it was an infant seat that wasn't quite reclined enough, but it was close. 1 lady had been educated at the health department. (yeah, I have one of those in my town.) The other lady had been referred to me by one of my "converts".

I am shocked how many people come to me with their seat in w/ latch and seatbelt at the same time.

I have had one car where it was almost perfect. The 1st seat check I went to before I was a tech I had it all in correctly I just couldn't find the tt anchor under my captains chair lol they helped me :)

She had him forward b/c they went on a 3.5 hr trip with him rear-facing and he screamed and cried so they turned him forward and he stopped. After I explained to her why rf'ing was safer and pulled the "If he was 8m and crying would you turn him" card she realized he should be rear-facing.

Before her the only other almost perfect install was a mom with an 7m old rf'ing. The ONLY problem was the seat protectors. Then a Dad with and AOE that was just a tad to loose (moving 2") but he knew about proper harness height, tight harness, chest clip and was finishing our sentences. He researched it here on c-s.org before putting the seat in his car. LOL.

Ha! I am stoked. My first client ever that wants to become a tech. I told her she should be and I guess she wants to now. I am going to ask around about a class and try and get her in on it. She really would be an asset to the car seat world. Yay!
