Question Latchable booster in 3rd row Grand Caravan

I just got a Compass B570 for my son. I was going to use it in the 3rd row of my 2010 Grand Caravan. However the latch anchors in the 3rd row of the Grand Caravan are jenky. They are not at the edge of the seat they're sort of 2/3 of the way in. So, if I latch it, I'm thinking the seat belt won't work properly. What should I do?

The offset LATCH there really only works for harnessed seats.

Is there a reason not to put him in a captain's chair?

Well he's been in the 3rd row for years - first in a latched harnessed seat and when he outgrew the latches I just belted the harnessed seat in. He prefers his own little domain in the 3rd row next to the charger for his ipod, cupholders etc. DD is in the passenger side captain's chair and the other captains chair is stowed so that I have easy access to both kids, have space to change their clothes, put sunblock on in the summer, jackets on in the winter etc without ever leaving the car. Also the 110 pound dog lays there on long trips.

Could I use that seat without latching it or just one of the latches? The latch is really just to protect the other passengers in the event of a crash where he's not in the seat right? I noticed the latches are long and don't tighten.

We have the Parkway B570 in my husband's car, the latch isn't supposed to be tight it is just supposed to keep it from flying when not occupied, as far as I understand, therefore doesn't need to be tight.

Latch on boosters is just so you don't have to buckle it in when it's empty. So not a requirement. Just use in the spot you want it un-latched, just teach him how to buckle it back in when he gets out.

And because the latch is just keeping the seat from flying around in an accident if it's unoccupied it doesn't need to be as tight as a harnessed seat when installed. I purposefully leave ours a little loose because otherwise it's so close to the buckle that DD can't get it buckled. I know at least one latchable booster they made it so that it's not at all possible to latch it in tight (don't remember the brand right now, but it might be the Compass).
