Peg Perego Viaggio failed Adac tests?

This is more like a Consumer Reports situation, where they have their own measurements, different from ECE/FMVSS/Whatever standards... might be better, might be worse, probably does help with some innovation at any rate.
And no matter how much they disparage the Turbo, year after year after year, we (in general, on the board) keep on loving it and saying it's safe (because statistically, backless boosters are as safe in real life as highbacks, according to current data). Wouldn't it be nice to see that crash car with curtain airbags?

Yeah, from what I've seen there are a lot of differences in the seat. Not to mention they are very Consumer Reports-ish, with their own "issues" as far as testing (for one thing, they tend to not rate rear-facing convertibles well, ever, from what I've seen.)

Euro and US versions should be quite different. Euro one can be used RF to 13kg only and FF to 18kg.

As for why it got bad grade, I guess it *might* be that dummy's head moved too far in the frontal crash test [first video here].

You can't see what the dummy measures, injury measures such as HIC (head injury), and from a frontal view you can't really tell how it does on head excursion, either.

On a side note, at 1:00 he installs the Aton baseless, but puts the lap belt around the back and shoulder belt in the lap belt guides. No wonder the seat flew out of the vehicle. :rolleyes:

I think he's demonstrating potential misuse there. Aton got highly rated in their tests.

The child restraint tested in that particular ADAC test was NOT the Primo Viaggio SIP 5-70 Convertible, which is the one sold in the United States. While both the tested model and the Primo Viaggio SIP 5-70 are Convertibles, they differ in shape, construction and age range.
The results from that ADAC test are from an older model Convertible that is no longer on the market.

That video freaked me out, until I realized the Peg Perego seat didn't even use a chest clip! So many of the seats look like they were installed incorrectly.

European seats do not use chest clips, and that does not make them less safe. A chest clip is a pre-crash positioner: it's not intended to (and probably won't) restrain a child during a crash.
