What agency would you contact to see about assistance getting a special needs car seat for an 85 plus pound child?

Talk to the hosital that does the care. They tend to have money for this sort of thing. Also, DD services. We try to stay with mainstream seats first. What are the special needs?

Generally, a SN seat is ordered through the same process as a wheelchair so it goes through the child's insurance(s).

I'd also talk to the child's PT and the local durable medical equipment company.

The PT should be able to write a letter of justification and the equipment supplier knows the companies and can get sample equipment for fitting and assessment.

Many states also have assistive technology/voc rehab programs that help families access SN equipment and supplies as well as make adaptations to their home (ramps, widen doorways, etc.).

Agencies and organizations related to the child's specific disability may also be helpful: ARC, Easter Seals, etc.
