Question Seat belt step down in safety to booster

The AAP recommendations say that moving from rear facing to forward facing and from forward facing to booster and from booster to seat belt is a step down in safety. What if a child fits fine without the booster (passes the 5 step test)? Does this mean that kids should stay in boosters for as long as possible (as long as they fit within the weight limit)?

(I hope I put this in the correct category; it took me forever to find how to get here).

Until a child's body is physically that of an adult, so the adult safety systems in place in the car work properly (they're designed for the 50% adult male, remember), a booster is better. Now if you have a 6' 150 pound 10 year old, you're out of luck. But for the average child who would fit in a booster until puberty, leave them there. That way the adult safety systems will work on an adult skeleton. That's why I'm safer than some of the kids in my daughter's class. I'm 5'1", size four, and a lot of her classmates look eye to eye or down at me. But I have an adult skeleton and they do not. I have an iliac crest with which to hold my lap belt down and keep it from coming into my abdomen. They do not.
