Some confusion in the Diono Radian RXT manual?

I've read over the manual a few times. I still don't quite get what they are saying with the SafeStop. It's not really relevant to me at the moment because my guy is still rear facing and likely will be until he exceeds 40lbs if I can help it, but the semantics they use in the manual are bugging me.

Here are the statements that are confusing to me in the manual:

Pg. 20: " ALWAYS use SafeStop with LATCH installation for forward-facing child below 40lbs."

Okay, I'm with them so far.

pg. 22: "For lap-shoulder belt installation ONLY use SafeStop with top tether and with child under 40lbs."

So now they are emphasizing ONLY with the lap-shoulder belt? And for some reason they mention the top tether here but not in the pg. 20 instruction?

pg. 24: "For lap belt installation ONLY use SafeStop with top tether and with child under 40lbs."

Ok........ why can't they just say that with any forward facing installation with a child under 40 lbs, use SafeStop?

And then on pg. 28, in the actual SafeStop section, they say: "ALWAYS use SafeStop when using LATCH or top tether with forward-facing child under 40lbs. Do not use SafeStop with any other installation configuration."

Ok. So use it with LATCH, or with top tether, but not with any other configuration? But what about where they said you could use SafeStop with the lap-shoulder belt on page 22 and 24?

This is making me feel stupid. I am missing something very simple I am sure. If this has been discussed before, I apologize.

Does this make sense to anyone?

I think part of the re-stating is they have to cover it in every section where use would be required.

Ok........ why can't they just say that with any forward facing installation with a child under 40 lbs, use SafeStop?

Because you never use SafeStop if the top tether isn't attached.

"ALWAYS use SafeStop when using LATCH or top tether with forward-facing child under 40lbs. Do not use SafeStop with any other installation configuration."
My take on this is when installed with LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tether for CHildren- meaning both lower anchors and the top tether) or when just the top tether is attached- no lower anchors- and under 40 pounds forward facing. Meaning don't use it if you're not using the top tether or if you are using the top tether and the child is over 40 pounds, and never use it rear facing.

I do agree with you that is is confusing.

Thank you for explaining that. I think very few "average parents" installing seats would get what they are saying, though. It seems like they could be so much more clear about it. I also think some commas before "ONLY" might help a bit too. I suppose i could send my comments to Diono.

I appreciate your help!

Yeah. I agree that it could be clearer but I could say that about almost every manual for both cars and car seats! :)
