Need short RF convertible for 07 Nissan Altima.

I have an 8 month old who is about to outgrow his Graco Snugride. He is 19 pounds. I want to find a convertible seat that can go behind the driver's seat of my 07 Altima and still allow the driver to have plenty of leg room. I have an older son that uses a Safety 1st All-in-one FF and that seat won't fit RF unless its in the middle seat. I want the baby to be behind the driver and not in the middle because I don't want his older brother to be able to reach him. I took a look at the Safety 1st Guide 65 but am concerned about the headrest causing the head to be angled forward. Also looked at the True Fit and thought that it wouldn't work because baby is 3 pounds away from needing the headrest added on and then it would take up too much room. Budget is $150 or less. Any suggestions would be great, thanks!

Generally, a convertible seat takes up less room than an infant seat so if you've got the infant seat behind the driver, you won't have an issue with putting a convertible there.

My favorite picks other than the True Fit for that budget are the Graco MyRide and the Evenflo Triumph. Both are pretty trim front to back, and rear face to 40 pounds so your LO will easily make it to a safe forward facing age (3-4 years old).

How old is his older brother? The Safety 1st All in One seats can be a little tricky, make sure you know what the weight limit for the harness is (40 or 50 pounds) and which headrest positions can be used (on many versions the top position is only a headrest position for booster mode, it cannot be used in harness mode). Don't forget that the harness is outgrown in height when his shoulders are above the top harness position, and is dangerous to use in booster mode, so he'll need another seat when he outgrows the harness.

Thanks for the information. My oldest son is 4.5 and is 39lbs so he is about to outgrow the weight rating of 40 for the harness on the All-in-one. His head is getting close to the top as well, I need to figure out if I can move the headrest up any more. I may wind up buying him a new seat too since I have noticed that his car seat is on the "not recommended" list for using as a booster on iihs's website. I've also found that Nissan has a list of car seats that will fit in the Altima, which includes my all-in-one. But apparently that list doesn't take into account that it takes away leg room for the passenger in front of it. :) The true fit isn't on the list, but the other two you recommended are.

We have an '06 Altima and my DH is 6'4" with long legs. The True Fit fits like a glove, even with the headrest on. I usually ride in front of it, and I'm 5'7. I have lots of room and could even move up some more and still be comfy.

I've had a MyRide in it, too, and while I could install it, it was harder to get tight enough (had to push into the back seat, not just down), but it still didn't take up much room.

some tips- make sure the front seat folks have their seats as upright as they can stand it. My DH tends to really recline his seat because he is so tall, and I think a lot of people do just out of habit. You are more safer more upright, and it will give you a lot more room in the back to work with.

Make sure your kiddo's seat is as upright as it can be. Your 3-in-1 is required to be reclined to the level line, according to the company, so it takes up a TON of room. The True Fit, MyRide, and others can be installed more upright, which takes up less room.
When you install, push into the back seat, and not just down. The side bolster thing on the seat pushes the seat out a bit, and pushing back into it gives you a bit more room.

Ignore the Nissan list. I've gotten seats not on there to fit fine, and a good chunk of their list doesn't. I have no idea where they got that list from, certainly not parents!

I have a Sentra, so my back seat is a little smaller than yours. We had a Safety 1st Complete Air in there with no problems, and my 6' husband was still able to drive comfortably.
