Which would be safer?

So I always put the largest child in the front in my old van when I need someone up there as the airbag didn't shut off(yes seat all the way back). But my new van the airbag shuts of weight sensor so it got me wondering if this is the best option. The one child will be 9 in July weighs about 95lbs can actually five step in the front seat airbag does not shut off or smaller 8yr old in lbb airbag shuts off? The 8yr olds one will be 9 in September and the other in December these two are the same size.

I'd never count on that weight sensor to turn the air bag off.

Has there been issues with this failing? My air bags don't turn off so I always make DD sit in the back but in my sister's car they do (with the weight sensor and a light turns on indicating that it is off) so I allow her to sit in the front in that car in her booster as she would never be able to fit between the 2 AOEs in the back. Should I be rethinking this decision? Is there any research to indicate that the weight sensors sometimes don't work?

I would be interested in the answer as well. During the summer my son will be travelling in the front seat and he is one of the smaller 8yr olds as some days there will be six other kids.

Of those two choices, I would put whichever child is better about remembering to not move out of position and is least likely fall to the temptation to change my radio stations.

Touch buttons that would never happen LOL, they all sit well in the car I'm anal about that stuff! Now sometimes if the boys are in the same row I need to remind them a few times but that can't happen in the front:)

In a crash you can't rely on the air bag sensor to work properly when it comes to car seats or kids 12 and under. You can't predict the crash dynamics enough to be 100% positive that it will stay off.

Does the older child have adequate head support and good belt fit still with a low back booster? I would do that if you absolutely had to have someone in the front seat, and that is assuming that child is able to stay in position.
