A friend ask me this question the other day and i didnt really know the answer so i ask here. If you are not a tech but you educate parents about how to correctly install and use car seats can you call your self a "car seat educator"???

I suppose you could, but when you give yourself a title like that, people generally expect that you have some kind of credentials. If you don't, people might not take you seriously.

If the educating includes helping with installations, you open yourself up to tremendous liability, ESPECIALLY if people believed you had some kind of training.

I see Carseat Advocate a lot, but it's not an official term. I'd make sure whatever you call yourself it's obvious that it's a casual title. Carseat Nut or something like that.

You can call yourself anything you want, but IMO it's only fair to tell parents that you have no training or credentials, and no liability insurance (I don't think you can get insurance without a certification).

Under what circumstances do you plan on identifying yourself? Are you planning on teaching classes, or using your title to try to convince parents of your acquaintance to take you seriously?

I tell people I'm a car seat geek/nerd and I plan on taking a certifying course when I can get the time off work.

You can pretty much call yourself anything you want, as long as it isn't an official title that has official requirements to be called it. Like, I can't call myself a medical doctor. But I could call myself a doughnut quality control supervisor

Ones i move to sc i do plan to get certified but i dont plan to use it as credencial and i do not plan to try to make installitions, the conversation started because a parent from my home day care wanted me to make her installation and i told her no that i was not a cpst, i explain to her that i was only trying to educate her on the best car seat use, she has her toddler rf but she turn her ff because it was too hot. I explain to her that if i made the installation i could get in trouble if something happend so i was just going to educate her.
