Vent Rant about my niececs, grrrrr

So I had to go with my mom who is babysitting my nieces to go pick up my brother's and his wife's van. They are not car seat safety advocates like me, so their kids have been RF'd to a year, harnessed until 4, and booster to 6. One of them was out of the harness before 4 because the crotch strap was hurting her (she was in a Cosco Scenera). So the 5 yr old is in a booster and her 7yr old sis is in nothing, and I LOST COUNT of how many times I had to tell them to face forward and keep the seat belt OVER their shoulder, even the boostered one. RARGH!!!

Ok, I feel better now. I still don't understand why they do what they do, but hey, I've done the best I can with my 95% boy, who at the rate he's growing, will outgrow his First Years True Fit before or around 5 :( He'll be 3 in Sept and is already on the 4th and final harness slot, admittedly, I just moved him there in Feb or March, but still.....

I feel the same way! My 4 year old niece has been riding in an old, expired booster for about a year in her dads old truck and she rides in an outgrown convertible in her moms van with the harness pushed to the side and a seat belt around her like a "booster seat." She doesn't like to be in a car and she doesn't sit still at all. She is constantly leaning into the floor. It drives me nuts and her dad is a state trooper. They know better!

Yeah, I've made some concessions for my husband, like turning our DS right at 2 in his TF, because he had been FFing in his Scenera since 16months. He'd outgrown if RFing by height then :( Luckily when DH tried to pull the "Kids as big as him neeed to be FFing" card, I pulled out with a "Its not how HUH (while making strong man arms at him) big they are, its about how developed their bones are." So he was ok with taking DS to 2 after that, any longer he felt a little weird about.
