Question Belt tightener WWYD?

I follow a FB page and someone posted that they have a good friend that is a fire fighter and he is SO good at installing seats, he even uses a belt tightener to crank the seats in so tight. She wanted everyone to make an appointment to go see him! OMG! Of course I got on there and said how horrible tighteners were and that if someone tried to use a tightener on my seat I would run far away. Would her seat belts be damaged, should I encourage her to replace them. It really doesn't sound good!
