NEAR EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - A mother and two children are hospitalized after a single car crash near Eau Claire Monday morning.

The Wisconsin State Patrol say it happened just before 6:45 a.m. on Interstate 94 near the exit 81 off-ramp in Eau Claire County.

It appears the driver, a 27-year-old woman from Maplewood, Minnesota, was traveling westbound at mile post 81 when she lost control of the vehicle and struck a barrier on the median side of the highway. Investigators say the vehicle then traveled across both lanes of traffic and up an embankment where it rolled over, coming to rest in a drainage ditch.

The driver was trapped and had to be extricated from the vehicle. She was taken by air ambulance to Mayo Health Systems of Eau Claire.

Two children, a nine-year-old and a 20 month-old, were not properly restrained and were both ejected from the vehicle. The toddler was flown to Rochester while the nine-year-old was transported by ground ambulance to Mayo Health Systems of Eau Claire.

At this point there is no word on conditions of the patients. The crash remains under investigation by the Wisconsin State Patrol
