FR85 in booster mode...

Would you use the FR85 in booster mode if you could'nt latch it? It just seems so heavy. My DD loves this seat, so hate to have to switch it.

Thanks Kel

I would LATCH it if possible. Is the vehicle too old for LATCH, or is there no LATCH in the seating position she's in? Have you tested the belt fit in booster mode yet? The LATCH issue may be a moot point if it doesn't make a good booster for her. Don't forget to change the recline and remove the screw to convert to booster mode :)

I haven't tried it in booster mode yet, lol. I'll try the fit today and get back.

Just in case, Whats a good light weight hbb? Shes 41'' and 45#.

Thanks Kel

Boosters are very child dependent, and the same booster will work differently in different cars. It would help if you could describe her build, and what vehicle to you drive? What's your budget? I looked through your previous posts- I assume the child you're talking about is your 5 year old, do you think she'll sit properly in a booster- not try to move out of place?

as long as it is buckled in when not in use, I'd have no problem with it.

I might tether it, though, since I think you can (hopefully a tech can chime in just to be sure)

how old is this kid? that size seems so small to me to be moving to booster mode.

She is kinda small, but shes 5yrs 5mos. Shes harnessed for now. We have a windstar with latch, but with 6 kids I never use it. I use seat belts to give more room. She was talking about using a booster and it dawned on me how heavy of a seat the FR85 is.

The reason for wanting to keep the FR for a hbb is that her legs fall asleep easily. I would RF her in our RN, but shes a little over the weight limit.

Also, my dh truck is older, no latch. She never goes in it, but you never know.

Thanks Kel

I like keeping DD harnessed in it just so I don't have to worry about it being buckled when she isn't in it. It also isn't as reclined in booster mode so the may not like it as much.

I'd probably keep her harnessed awhile longer because of her size and also because I know how tough it makes it trying to buckle a booster next to a harnessed seat.

Not that I know what your seat arrangement is, but harnessed is just so much easier.

I'd delay her... tell her when she's 6 or 7 or pick an age and give her a size she needs to be (or just go with a size)

The frontier is seriously awesome booster because it goes so tall, but she probably will never need the height of it. I'd probably hold off moving into a booster until the frontier needs passed down and use that as a good time to put her in a booster like a turbobooster, a recaro, or the Diono Monterey (if the guide is compatible with your vehicle)

Thanks Ladies, I tried her out in the FR85 in booster mode. It fits her well.

I'm keeping her harnessed for now though. I would still like to buy her a light weight smallish booster for a back up. Dads truck, grandpas car ect...

I'm thinking the new graco SS booster. Do we now the weight of this seat? I also like the maxi cosi rodi xr. She loves the colors, but Im not sure I care for the cup holder, it appears to stick out a lot.

Thanks Kel
