Booster question?

I am confused when it comes to boosters lol. My son isn't ready yet but I plan on training in a year and full time a year after that(using his fn85 for that). The questions involve the booster I need to buy to start training him. I obviously don't want to keep switching his fn85 from harness to booster so I will need a dedicated booster. He will be 4 next month and has a 15 1/2 inch torso BUT in his nautilus he was on last slot with an inch of growth and his fn85 has I *think* 2 or 3 slots left. So my car eats torso slots. I was planning on getting a evenflo amp hbb but I'm not sure how high it goes. My other thought was a probooster but that's pretty pricy for a barely used seat. Btw my car is a 07 Toyota corolla and he is the only child(and will be for a LONG time). Any suggestions?

The Evenflo Amp goes to nearly 20" as a high back.

Either his torso is longer than 15.5", or there's another slot under the headrest of your Nautilus. It has 18.5" top slots. So he's got a 17.5" torso, potentially.

I guarantee it's on the last(4th) slots. I have a picture but I can't figure out how to post it. And I just measured his torso again today. Crisscross up straight against the door. I'm concerned that my car will eat booster height also like it does these two seats.

Is the nautilus is "recline" mode. That can eat height. It goes up another notch for boostering. I loved it for DD as her first booster.

It was(we don't have it anymore). The tech said that the more right postition was too upright so keep it in recline mode. Our fn85 does a similar thing though but that one you have to keep reclined

Too upright for what? Sleep comfort? Tight install? (Sorry, just one of those things I'm trying to imagine why a tech might say, know what I mean?) If your seat installs fine in the upright position and your kid isn't sleeping in the car, then reinstall it upright and see if there's any more growing room.
I wouldn't buy another seat for booster training. Use his seats till the harness doesn't fit, then turn it into a booster, and if you have to remind him to sit still, then that's booster training. Even my teenagers have to constantly be reminded to sit properly  (Honestly? I mostly use the term 'booster training' because I know *adults* don't know what a good belt fit is, they let kids put shoulderbelts behind them and lean all over the place, so for me it's a sideways method of education for parents ).
I've seen the AMP fit very poorly on some smaller kids, belt too high on the abdomen, so try before you buy. Turbo tends to fit young kids very well, and if you find a good sale on one it won't be too awful when it doesn't fit for a super long time :)

I wouldn't buy anything now it I do think the HBB Turbo fits little kids great. I also like it as a carpool seat because it fits so many kids so well. Just remember the screws for the armrests.

He might have 2 yrs or so left in the FR tho.
