This is someone I see weekly and offered to check everyone's seats (there are 4 families in our neighborhood playgroup.) She came to me about it so I wasn't pushing it beyond offering the one time.
I was totally expecting what I saw. (I weighed the kids on my scale.) 40# DD same age as my DD in a graco combo seat DOM 2004. Harness slightly loose and clip slightly low. 47# DS (5.5yrs) in a cosco pronto booster DOM 2010. Just a poor fit and he's not rooting the belt correctly. Didn't know the back could go up so I showed her. The belts in this car are also really stiff and twisted 2x in the retractor so it can't lay flat on the child. Not sure how to correct that. It's some sort of Lexus bigger SUV but not sure what year - maybe early 2000s???
Talked to mom about how the graco seat was expired and why and how she's at the weight limit anyway. She actually had shoulder room. Talked to her about maybe looking at a booster with deeper sides for the DS because both kids frequently sleep in the car. Very receptive to getting a new seat for the DD. Possibly for the DS. Now sure what the DD has in the dad's car, the DS has a LBB, but he very rarely drives them due to some medical issues.
Sent her links and short explanations of Maestro, Turbo, Nautilus and Secure Kid. I'm curious what they will end up doing. I'm hoping they spring for a GN for the girl but even a Maestro would be great.
