What is the most car seat-friendly compact or midsize sedan?

We're going to be replacing my husband's 2001 Toyota Camry with a new car later this year. My 2010 Chevy Equinox will remain our family's primary vehicle for long drives and this new car will be primarily for DH to commute. Because we share in daycare dropoff/pickup duties and plan to have another baby at some point during the 3 year lease term, car seat friendliness is an important consideration.

DD is in a RFing Britax Boulevard 70 in both of our cars. Our infant seat is a Chicco Keyfit and we will likely go for Radians as the convertible for our next child, or will move DD into a combination seat and pass the Boulevards down.

We'd prefer a midsize but would consider a compact if there were compelling reasons for a particular model. Good gas mileage is important since his round trip commute is 50 miles. Something like a Mazda5 would potentially be OK, but no minivans and probably no crossovers either unless they get really good highway mileage. No luxury makes, please, and VW is going to be a tough sell based on my previous ownership of a VW.

A couple members have new model Civics with great seat success including upright Radians.

I have an Altima (I think it's a 2010). Its backseat is great for 2 seats but is tricky for 3 across.

I never would have pegged a Civic as good for car seats.

Our neighbors have a Chevy Cruze which looks remarkably roomy for a compact, and my dad just got a Nissan Sentra. We were able to fit their Marathon RFing in the Sentra on the passenger side, but I'm 5'8" and wouldn't want to be the front passenger! I think the Altima would be a better bet than the Sentra.

When I think about it, the front passenger room doesn't matter much for this car. DH would not need to carry a passenger often/ever since my Equinox would still be our family vehicle. It would be him and 1-2 kids on the way to daycare, then him only for the commute. So if the passenger seat needs to be forward to accommodate a RFing seat, it wouldn't be a problem. Being able to do a 3-across would be nice but unlikely to be needed based on our childbearing plans and the fact that it'd be a 3 year lease.

Why do I have a feeling that our next several Sundays are going to be spent hauling a toddler and a couple of car seats around to dealerships? The sketchy car salesmen are going to LOVE us. :D

I have a Mazda3 and love it! I get between 32-35 mpg and I can drive 340+ miles on a tank. We live 25 miles away from Topeka and Lawrence so anything we do is a 50 mile roundtrip commute. I can easily get my 2 MR65s RF in both outboard positions. I have also had my Radian RF in the center and behind my drivers seat. I also have a nautilus that. Installs like a dream in any position.
I don't have a Britax to try out, but I would imagine that it would easily fit since the MyRide does!

We have a 2007 prius and a 2005 corolla, and had a classic blvd (sold bc DS was close to rfing weight limit) and now have a ca65 and radian XTSL. Our infant seat was also a keyfit. With the AA the radian works great in both cars RFing, and it's fine in the corolla even without an AA. DS is 6' and can sit in front of it. The blvd and keyfit worked in both cars as well, but I think we had to have the front seat a bit further forward with both. Pretty sure there are a few 3-across combos people have worked out in the prius.

FWIW, we *love* our prius. I've also heard great things about the new civics (and my bro has a 2006 and really likes it).

My parents drive a Prius and we have installed tons of seats in it with no problem. They even have the smaller version out as of this model year for even better gas mileage!

We have an accord lease we use as a commuter car, no problems with 2 seats, 3 gets tricky but our entire family (of 5) frequently takes it on short trips and runs around town!
