Question RFing Radian in middle seat of VW GTI?

Hi all,

My dd is almost 9 months old and is on the verge of outgrowing her infant seat. I'm on the hunt for a convertible seat and need to make the decision asap. I'm leaning towards the Radian RXT, but I'm concerned that it might not fit in our current car, which is an '08 VW GTI. We are getting a new, bigger car soon, but unfortunately we'll need to get the seat before the car and I'm not sure what we're getting. But I assume that if the Radian will fit in the GTI, it'll fit in whatever we get to replace it. I'd really appreciate advice about whether we can make the Radian work, or whether there are other seats you think we should consider instead.

Here are more details if they're helpful...

- I am 5'2" and dh is 5'9", so neither of us puts the front seat very far back. I hope that will help buy us some room.
-Unlike us, our dd is tall (90th percentile for height), so we'd like to get a car seat that's a good choice for a tall kid (hence part of our interest in the Radian).
- I'd really like to keep her in the middle if possible and not have to put her behind the passenger seat (though I'll deal with it for a few months if absolutely necessary).
- I've read in older posts here that the Radian doesn't work in the middle of the GTI/Golf because of the 60/40 split. I'm not sure why that would be, or if it's still true with the new Radian or with my year of the GTI.
- I'm open to using the angle adjuster now. DD is big and strong and I'm not concerned about using it before the one year mark.
- Replacement cars we're considering range from the Ford Edge to a used Jetta Sportswagen or another used wagon like a Volvo or Audi, or maybe leasing a Prius V.

Thanks in advance for your help!!

Welcome to car-seat.org :)

I'm not sure if there were any changes that would make the Radian compatible with your model year GTI, but I'm bumping this up for you so somebody that does know can see your question.

I've put them in the back of a two door GTI/Rabbit. It fit just fine with the angle adjuster. I think we used the adjuster to cover the 60/40 split.

Thanks for your responses! Wendy, it's great to know that you made this work. Now I can buy the seat with confidence! I've read that the Radian can be difficult to install, but if you did it successfully I'm sure we can figure it out. And Brianna, thanks for the bump :)
