Best car seat for newborns

I posted this in the Canadian/Int'l section too because I'm in Canada. But what would be a good car seat for someone not looking to buy a bucket seat? My friend is about to give birth and wants to go straight to a convertible seat since she doesn't drive very often and can't justify the price of two seats. I know some seats say 5+lbs but that doesn't actually work out (like in the Complete Air). Other things I'd like for her are RF to 40 lbs and FF to 65, so she can ERF if she so chooses, and can hopefully hold on to the seat till she needs a booster.

Suggestions? Remember I'm in Canada :) Thanks so much!

What is her budget?

The CA doesn't fit newborns because of harness height.

I'd look at the Graco MyRide 65 if you want 40RF and 65FF. They fit newborns pretty well. You could look at the Lamaze True Fit, but it RFs to 35lbs. It is a great seat for newborns because you can take the top part off and get a good recline for a newborn.

The Marathon 70 doesn't fit newborns well because of the harness height. I believe there is an insert you can buy that I have heard helps.

If she is thinking long term (which it sounds like she is), the Marathon has less leg room than the MyRide and True Fit. The shell height is also shorter too.

She could look at the Diono Radians as well. I haven't seen a newborn in one with the new insert. They RF to 40-45lbs depending on the model and are very tall.
