Say it ain't so!!!!

Copied from carseatblog.com

If installing foonf in a seating position that has a lap-only seatbelt – you MUST use tether. If no tether anchor is available, switch to a different seating position which has lap/shoulder seatbelt.

I emailed Clek to ask and they said they're checking and will get back to me. I had just about decided I needed one of these for the boy, but if it has to have a shoulder belt or tether, it will be incompatible and I will cry. :crying:

Well I wouldn't want a ff seat without a tether anyway.... But that sucks if it's your only option... Can u not get one retrofitted?

Pretty sure that violates FMVSS... Isn't lap-only no tether the standard under which they test?

Nope. It's the middle row of a suburban so at least there's nothing in front for him to hit his head on.

My only option is to tether to the 3rd row belt but then my drivers side booster rider cant get to his seat. And I don't have the part to allow me to do it.

It has to pass testing without the tether, but that doesn't mean the manufacturer has to "allow" it.

When Clek did its webinar thing, they said the booster passes testing with the lower anchors alone, as is required by law, but that they still consider it a "misuse" of the seat to use lower anchors without the top tether. So, for example, in a seating position (such as in a convertible) where there are lower anchors but no top tether, Clek does not allow the lower anchors to be used forward facing. It must be installed with the seat belt in that situation.

I imagine the lap belt is the same way.

I am not sure the Foonf would be less safe than any other seat in that position. But Clek says it's a misuse so there you have it.

Hi Everyone: Glad to see that you are looking at the Foonf so closely! Just wanted to remind you that the Foonf Instruction Manual has not yet been finalized. Some changes have been made to the Foonf shell since the webinar and we are currently in the process of retesting and finalizing our recommendations and requirements. Please stay tuned! I will let you know soon when the IM is available for viewing and downloading from www.clekinc.com.

Thanks, Vera! :)

We saw Chris and foonf today in GA. He was very clear that the seat on tour was a prototype and everything related to it very well could be changed, revised, or whatever before production actually started rolling.

So...we must wait...some more...:p
